However, there is no information yet about what was discussed in the meeting. The meeting comes against the backdrop of differences over the presence of Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the ruling ‘Mahayuti’ alliance in Maharashtra and his party’s opposition to the anti-Muslim propaganda of some BJP leaders. Shiv Sena leaders led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde have also been critical of the NCP. The three allies of the Mahayuti are yet to finalise the seat-sharing for the 228-member assembly elections, which are expected to be held next month. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis last week admitted that the BJP had got fewer votes from its new ally NCP than the Shiv Sena in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Ajit Pawar had earlier said that the allies of the Mahayuti will remain united and will work to ensure the victory of the alliance in the assembly elections.
