Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has secured the best trade deal with the United States. He launched a scathing attack on the opposition, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, for disrupting the debate in the Lok Sabha. Speaking on the India-US trade agreement, Goyal said that the deal was made possible due to Prime Minister Modi’s close personal relationship with US President Donald Trump and would benefit several sectors, including farmers, small and medium enterprises, and industry. Piyush Goyal said, “Normally, we would have wanted to talk about this in Parliament, but we all witnessed that shameful scene. The kind of shameful behavior the opposition, especially the Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi and their allies DMK, TMC, and Samajwadi Party, displayed in Parliament today. They went up to the Speaker’s chair and insulted him. I strongly condemn the opposition and Rahul Gandhi, because of whom we are here to give you this information today instead of speaking in Parliament.” Attacking the opposition, he said, “It is very unfortunate that negative-minded leaders like Rahul Gandhi are trying to mislead or confuse the country today. I strongly condemn Rahul Gandhi’s lies and deceit. They want to mislead the people, but this will not succeed. The country is progressing. They have no interest in making India the fastest-growing economy in the world. During the ten years of Congress rule in the UPA government, they ruined the economy, troubled the public, and stalled development.” Goyal further added, “We all know that the Prime Minister, leveraging his friendly and close relationship with President Trump, has secured a trade deal with the United States that is the best deal India has ever received compared to all our neighbors, surrounding countries, and our competitors. This is a fantastic deal for all of us.” He said, “On behalf of everyone, I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulate all of you, because this trade agreement, which the Prime Minister finalized yesterday, will truly bring immense opportunities for India’s economy, for all 140 crore citizens of India, for every poor person, farmer, fisherman, young men and women living in villages, and our sisters and women. Piyush Goyal said, “I believe that through this agreement, our MSMEs, our engineering sector, all the players in our engineering sector—whether they manufacture auto components, electrical parts, or are engaged in selling various types of engineering goods in the US, or plan to do so in the future—our textile sector, our gems and jewelry sector, our leather sector, our marine products sector, all will receive numerous opportunities through this agreement.”
