Owaisi asks Centre: Why no immediate denial of China’s mediation claims?

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has urged the Centre to deny claims of Beijing’s mediation in the India-Pakistan standoff. He said that normalization of relations with the neighboring country cannot come at the cost of sovereignty. After US President Donald Trump repeatedly claimed that Washington prevented a potential war between India and Pakistan, China also claimed its role in de-escalating tensions during the four-day conflict in May 2025. In a series of posts, Owaisi urged the central government to assure citizens that there was no third-party intervention between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor. The AIMIM chief wrote on X, “After the US President claimed to have brokered a ceasefire and used trade sanctions to establish peace, now the Chinese Foreign Minister is also officially making similar claims. This is an insult to India and the government must strongly deny it. Normalization of relations with China cannot come at the cost of India’s honor or its sovereignty.” Calling China’s claim shocking, he further added, “The Chinese Foreign Minister’s claim that Beijing mediated between India and Pakistan is shocking. The Indian government must officially deny this claim and assure the country that no third-party intervention is acceptable.” Furthermore, Owaisi termed it Beijing’s attempt to assert its supremacy in South Asia and put India and Pakistan on the same footing. He said, “China wants to put India and Pakistan on the same level and is trying to prove itself superior in South Asia. Did the Modi government agree to this during the Prime Minister’s visit to China? On one hand, China supplies 81 percent of weapons to Pakistan and provides real-time intelligence during Operation Sindoor, and on the other hand, it claims to be a mediator. This is unacceptable, and as a country, we cannot silently tolerate this.” China’s claims have sparked a new political controversy surrounding Operation Sindoor. On Wednesday, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh also launched a scathing attack on the central government, calling it a “joke” on New Delhi’s national security.
