No concrete answers to questions raised by the opposition, says KC Venugopal, taking a dig at Amit Shah
Congress MP KC Venugopal on Saturday accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of failing to provide concrete answers to questions raised by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi during the debate on electoral reforms earlier this week in the Lok Sabha. Speaking to ANI, Venugopal said, “No concrete answers were given to the questions raised by the Leader of the Opposition and other opposition parties. He said that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru became Prime Minister by stealing votes. In fact, this is a direct attack on Mahatma Gandhi. This is a blatant lie; it is a completely baseless lie. I have seen many of Amit Shah’s replies in the House, but this reply was completely defensive.” Venugopal further added, “We are fighting against the BJP and its agencies, the CBI, ED, IT, and the Election Commission. This is a fight against money power, a fight against muscle power. But we are confident that the public will stand with us because they are now most concerned about saving democracy and the Constitution.” Tensions escalated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday when a heated exchange took place between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Rahul Gandhi over allegations of vote rigging. Gandhi repeatedly challenged Shah to debate the issues he had raised at a press conference, including allegations of irregularities in the electoral rolls. Shah responded firmly, stating, “Parliament will not run according to his wishes,” and insisted that he would answer all questions in his own time. Shah also defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, calling it a necessary process to “purify” the voter lists. Accusing the opposition of double standards, he said they praise the Election Commission when they win and criticize it when they lose. The confrontation culminated in opposition MPs walking out of the House during Shah’s reply, leading to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha.
