It is the government’s responsibility to do something to tackle air pollution: Sonia Gandhi

Congress MPs on Thursday (December 4, 2025) gave an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss the rising air pollution in Delhi-NCR and other parts of North India. Manickam Tagore, Manish Tewari, and Vijayakumar alias Vijay Vasanth moved the notice, appealing to the Centre to declare pollution a national health emergency. Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, expressing concern over the air pollution situation in the national capital, said on Thursday that it is the government’s responsibility to do something to tackle it. Sonia Gandhi, demanding a discussion on the air pollution situation in the winter session, protested with opposition MPs in the Parliament complex. The former Congress president told reporters, “It is the government’s responsibility to do something. Small children suffering from asthma are unable to breathe, there are many elderly people like me, it is difficult for them too.” Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the air pollution situation. She said, “What season should we enjoy? Look outside at the situation, as Sonia ji said, small children are unable to breathe.” She claimed that the situation is worsening every year, but no concrete steps are taken. Priyanka said that concrete steps need to be taken.
