Prashant Kishor breaks silence after electoral defeat

In his first reaction after the massive defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor apologized to the people of the state, taking full blame for the loss. Taking full responsibility for his party’s massive defeat in the Bihar elections, the Jan Suraj Party chief said that he failed to change the government. He also observed a day-long fast of silence. He said, “We made a very positive effort on our part. We failed to change this government. We tried our best, but it seems we missed the mark somewhere. I take all the blame because I failed to convince the people. We will introspect. I am sorry.” Kishor said that it was a severe blow, but we will correct our mistakes and return stronger, and there is no question of going back. He said that the people have given the NDA a mandate, and it is the responsibility of Modi and Nitish to work to fulfill the promises made during the elections. He said, “I failed to explain to the people of Bihar the basis on which they should vote and why a new system should be created. Therefore, as atonement, I will observe a day-long fast of silence at the Gandhi Bhitiharwa Ashram on November 20th.” He said, “We may have made mistakes, but we have committed no crime. We have not committed the crime of spreading the poison of casteism in society. We have not played Hindu-Muslim politics in Bihar. We have not committed the crime of dividing people in the name of religion. We have not committed the crime of buying votes by giving money to the poor, innocent people of Bihar.” He said, “There must have been some flaw in our efforts, our thinking, and the way we explained that the people did not elect us. If the people did not trust us, then the entire responsibility lies with me. I take full responsibility for the fact that I could not win the trust of the people of Bihar.” Former election strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party (JSP), which was touted as the ‘X factor’ in the Bihar elections, failed to even open its account in the 243-member assembly despite contesting 238 seats. According to the Election Commission, most JSP candidates secured less than 10 percent of the total votes polled and forfeited their deposits. The party’s best performance was by Naveen Kumar Singh alias Abhay Singh, who came second from the Madhaura assembly constituency. RJD’s Jitendra Kumar Rai won the seat by a margin of 27,928 votes.
