Antibiotic misuse has become a major AMR crisis, Health Minister Nadda stressed the need for corrective measures.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Tuesday stated that the overuse and misuse of antibiotics has unfortunately become common, leading to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a major public health concern. He emphasized the urgent need for corrective measures. Launching the second edition of the National Action Plan (NAP) on AMR (2025-29) here, Nadda said that this issue can only be addressed through collective action. He said, “AMR is a major public health concern, which can only be addressed through collective action.” Nadda said that this journey began with initial discussions in 2010, followed by the launch of the first NAP-AMR in 2017. He emphasized that the overuse and misuse of antibiotics has unfortunately become common, and that immediate corrective measures must be taken in this regard. He said that various ministries have taken many important initiatives in this regard.
