Something to Praise

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Tuesday dismissed Shashi Tharoor’s positive review of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ramnath Goenka Lecture, saying she found nothing commendable in the speech. Responding to Tharoor’s post on X, Shrinate told reporters, “I found nothing commendable in Prime Minister Modi’s speech. I think the Prime Minister needs to answer many things.” Shrinate said, “He was at a newspaper event. He should have told us what his problem is with unbiased journalism. He should have told us why he’s not happy with those who show and speak the truth.” “So, I don’t see any reason to praise him. I don’t know how he (Shashi Tharoor) found any reason for this. I found it a trivial speech. He criticized the Congress there too. The Prime Minister thinks about the Congress day and night. This is surprising.” His comments were in stark contrast to Tharoor’s response via X-post, in which he highlighted the main themes of the Prime Minister’s address. In his post, Tharoor wrote that he had attended the lecture and observed that Prime Minister Modi spoke of India’s “creative impatience” for development and emphasized an anti-colonial mindset. Tharoor further said that the Prime Minister described India not as an emerging market, but as an “emerging model” for the world, emphasized the country’s economic resilience, and said that he was in an emotional, not electoral, mood to address people’s problems.
