Tamil Nadu CM to move Supreme Court against SIR

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by MK Stalin, has moved the Supreme Court against the proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. A DMK release stated that party organizing secretary R.S. Bharathi filed the petition in the court through party MP and senior advocate N.R. Elango. Stalin’s all-party meeting on SIR comes a day after DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called an all-party meeting and decided to move the Supreme Court against the second phase of electoral roll revision in 12 states and union territories, including Tamil Nadu. Stalin said on X that it is the duty of all parties to unite and raise their voice against the SIR, which is being hastily implemented with the intention of disenfranchising the people of Tamil Nadu and murdering democracy. Regarding the confusion and doubts surrounding the voter list revision, since our demand for it to be carried out after the 2026 general elections, within a reasonable time frame and without any issues, has not been accepted by the ECI, we have passed a resolution in today’s all-party meeting to approach the Supreme Court. He expressed his gratitude to all parties who participated in the all-party meeting and urged those who did not participate to discuss this move within their respective parties. He said, “I express my gratitude to the leaders of the 49 parties who participated in the all-party meeting and expressed their sentiments. I request all those who did not participate to discuss the all-party meeting within their parties and take initiative to protect democracy.”
