Mayawati explains the reason for her renunciation of alliances
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati clarified on Thursday that her party will contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections alone and will not form any alliances. Addressing a gathering in Lucknow to mark the death anniversary of BSP ideologue Kanshi Ram, Mayawati said that contesting elections in alliance in the state or other parts of the country has not benefited the party. She said that while our votes transfer, other parties do not, resulting in a decline in our vote share. Even if coalition governments are formed, they do not last long. Recalling past elections, the BSP chief said that when the party previously contested the assembly elections in alliance with the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, it won only 67 seats. “In 2007, we were successful in forming a majority government on our own,” the leader said. Regarding the rumors surrounding Azam Khan, BSP chief Mayawati, without directly naming him, said that false reports had been circulating since last month that leaders from other parties were joining the BSP and had met with him in Delhi and Lucknow. She clarified, “I have not met anyone. I do not meet anyone secretly.”
