The silence of the Indian community on the change in US policy towards India is surprising: Tharoor
An Indian parliamentary committee raised the issue of recent adverse decisions taken by the US against India with a delegation of US lawmakers. A delegation of five Democratic Party lawmakers from the US is visiting India, including members who have been critical of US President Donald Trump’s policies. Shashi Tharoor, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, said after the meeting that the committee members questioned why the Indian-American diaspora has remained silent on this issue. Some members of the US delegation, led by Amy Bera, also spoke on the issue. Tharoor said, “The issue was discussed as to why the Indian-American diaspora has remained so silent on this issue.” He added, “We all need to talk to the Indian-American community and tell them that if you care about your relationship with the motherland, you must fight for it, speak up. You must pressure your political representatives to stand with India.”
