Cross-examination of a witness in the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi completed
The cross-examination of one witness in the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Member of Parliament (MP) from Rae Bareli, was completed on Tuesday in the Sultanpur MP/MLA court, and the second witness will be examined on October 9th, Gandhi’s lawyer said. Kashi Prasad Shukla, the MP’s lawyer, stated that the cross-examination of Anil Mishra, a resident of Pitambarpur Kalan in the Kotwali Dehat area, who was scheduled to testify on Tuesday, had previously been incomplete on September 9th, but the examination was completed today. He added that the second witness, Ramchandra Dubey, will now be examined on October 9th. Vijay Mishra, a resident of Hanumanganj in the Kotwali Dehat area and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in the MP/MLA court in 2018. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi had allegedly made a derogatory remark during the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections, which hurt him. The case was heard in court for five years, but Rahul Gandhi did not appear. In December 2023, the then judge issued a warrant against him, summoning him. Subsequently, in February 2024, Rahul Gandhi surrendered in court. The special magistrate granted him bail on two sureties of 25,000 rupees each. The court then summoned him to record his statement. After several dates, on July 26th, Rahul Gandhi appeared in court and recorded his statement. He declared himself innocent and alleged a political conspiracy had been hatched against him. Following this, the court directed the plaintiff to present evidence. On April 28th, plaintiff advocate Santosh Kumar Pandey presented Anil Mishra as a witness in court, who was cross-examined by Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla.
