Supreme Court order on Waqf Act a good sign for democracy: Rijiju
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, saying it is a good sign for democracy. The Supreme Court has stayed several important provisions of the Act, including the section which allowed only those people to dedicate a property as Waqf who have been following Islam for the last five years. However, the court refused to stay the entire law. Rijiju told reporters here, “I believe this decision of the Supreme Court is a very good sign for our democracy.” He said that the provisions of the Act are beneficial for the entire Muslim community. The minister said, “Misuse including occupation of property through the Waqf Board will now be stopped through this new law. The Supreme Court was well aware of the whole matter.
