PM Modi visits disaster-hit Uttarakhand, announces relief package of Rs 1200 crore
Prime Minister Modi visited Dehradun on 11 September 2025 and reviewed the flood situation and damage caused by cloudburst, rain and landslides in the affected areas of Uttarakhand. The Prime Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 1200 crore for the flood and rain-affected areas of Uttarakhand, the PMO said. The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The Prime Minister announced comprehensive assistance under the PM CARES for Children scheme for children orphaned due to the recent floods and landslides. Since the Kedarnath tragedy, this year has seen the highest number of disasters in the state, causing losses worth crores of rupees. The press release said that several villages have been badly affected, where not only people have lost their lives but also livestock have suffered casualties. Prime Minister Modi reached Dehradun after concluding his meetings with his Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The two leaders held a bilateral meeting and exchanged several documents. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Dhami met the inter-ministerial team, which assessed the damages in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Nainital districts. The team was led by R. Prasanna, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. The team shared the feedback received from the disaster-affected people and praised the relief operations being carried out by the state government. They appreciated the arrangement of shelter and food in the relief camps, availability of medical facilities on the spot and other essential services provided to the affected people. The central team said that immediate assistance of Rs 5 lakh was provided by the state government to the families of the deceased persons and those whose houses were destroyed, which provided great relief to the victims.
