Support to Modi government necessary in national interest against Trump’s pressure tactics: Sharad Pawar

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Chandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday called for supporting the central government in national interest against US President Donald Trump’s “pressure tactics”, citing US tariffs. The former Union minister said he did not want to speculate on whether the Modi government’s foreign policy has failed or not. “We had seen Trump’s working style as US president even in his first term. I think nobody has control over him. Whatever comes to his heart, he speaks impulsively,” he said. Sharad Pawar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not ignore the signs of growing distance between India and neighbouring countries. “We cannot ignore our attitude towards our neighbouring countries either. Today, Pakistan is against us, while countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives are not happy with us,” he said. The NCP (SP) chief said, “Our neighbours are moving away from us. I think Modi Sahab should not ignore this aspect and should focus on improving relations.
