Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday spoke to the father of the student who immolated herself in Odisha’s Balasore and assured him of full support in his fight for justice. “Spoke to father of brave daughter who lost her life in fight for justice in Odisha’s Balasore,” he posted on ‘X’. The body of a college student who set herself on fire after alleged sexual harassment by a professor was cremated at a crematorium in her village in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday. In a shocking development in the Balasore self-immolation case, the deceased’s father has alleged that his daughter was murdered and not a suicide as was initially reported. The incident took place in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday. Pleading for justice, the bereaved father urged the state government to investigate the case as a murder and bring all those responsible to justice. In a statement to ANI, he said, “Everyone together forced my daughter to take this step. Is this not murder?” He further said, “I believe it was a conspiracy. She used to speak openly in college, and some people could not tolerate it.” He also expressed serious concern about her last visit to the college principal’s office and suggested that the circumstances surrounding her death should be thoroughly investigated. He said, we will ensure at all costs that the victim’s family gets full justice. Rahul Gandhi had alleged on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) system had killed the girl. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha had also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not remain silent on this issue but should respond. A college student from Balasore district had allegedly set herself on fire on Saturday in the institute campus and was 90 percent burnt. She died on Tuesday. The student had earlier filed a complaint of sexual harassment against a teacher.
