PM Modi lauds India’s technological and digital progress, gives credit to youth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded India’s digital and technological progress, saying that the country is making remarkable progress in innovation and application of technology. The Prime Minister highlighted that digital progress is also strengthening the country’s efforts towards becoming self-reliant in the technology sector. On his social media platform, PM Modi shared a post from MyGovIndia, which explained how India can become the world’s next technology superpower and what steps have been taken by the central government in the last 11 years in this field. Prime Minister Modi said, “With the help of the youth of India, we are making remarkable progress in innovation and application of technology. This is also strengthening our efforts to become self-reliant and a global technological superpower.” India has recorded a 2500-fold increase in the volume of UPI transactions, data shows that UPI transactions which were 0.93 crore in April 2017 increased to 1867.70 crore by April 2025. India is also leading the digital payments revolution, with transactions worth over Rs 260 lakh crore annually, with annual transactions worth Rs 18,600 crore. Modi also wrote that with the help of India’s youth, we are making remarkable progress in innovation and application of technology. This is also strengthening our efforts to become self-reliant and a global technological superpower. UPI has also gained acceptance in the world and is live in seven countries including UAE, Singapore, Nepal, France, Mauritius, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. India is also the world’s cheapest mobile data provider with over 94 crore broadband connections and over 120 crore telephone subscribers. Under the Bharat Net scheme, a total of 2.18 lakh gram panchayats have been connected to optical fibre networks and 6.92 lakh kilometres of fibre cable has been laid.
