Akhilesh vows to help girl who collected books during demolition drive

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday announced that he will bear the cost of education of eight-year-old Ananya Yadav of Ambedkar Nagar. A video of Anyanya running and collecting books during demolition drive near her slum has been doing the rounds and has caught the attention of all, including the Supreme Court. Taking a dig at the Yogi Adityanath-led government, Akhilesh posted on social media platform ‘X’ and said, “Those who destroy the future of children are actually homeless. We pledge to educate this girl.” He said, “Only those who study know the value of education. Bulldozer is a symbol of destructive power, not knowledge, understanding or wisdom. Bulldozer runs on the fuel of ego, riding on the wheels of arrogance, there is no rein of justice in it.” In March, Anyanya had to leave her slum due to demolition drive as it was allegedly built by encroaching land. Ambedkar Nagar police defended the action. It said, “Following the order passed by the court of Jalalpur Tehsildar, this action was taken to remove encroachment from the village land… … The demolition was done in full compliance with the order of the Revenue Court to retrieve the government land.” The Supreme Court, which recently took cognizance of the issue, has sought a response from the authorities about the circumstances of such demolition in the surrounding areas. Ananya, who lives in Arai village in Jalalpur area of Ambedkar Nagar, had told reporters that she wants to become an IAS officer one day.
