Clash between Omar Abdullah and LG Sinha in Jammu! Angry CM wrote a letter to the Center, know the whole matter
The differences between Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have come out in the open for the first time. The latest case is the recent transfer of 48 JKAS officers by Sinha’s office. It is being told that it was allegedly done without consulting the elected government. The ruling coalition- which includes National Conference (NC), Congress and independent MLAs- has accused the LG of bypassing democratic processes. Sources said that CM Omar is not happy with the transfer of 48 JKAS officers by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The CM has also written a letter to the Home Ministry expressing his displeasure over the situation. Unhappy with the orders of transfer of middle and lower level officers in the Union Territory, CM Omar has written a letter to the Home Ministry asking the Center to take note of it and expressed his displeasure over the transfer of middle and lower level officers by the LG. NC sources said the Omar government sees these orders as interference by the LG in matters of governance and an attempt to exert complete control over the bureaucracy. They said the Lt Governor is entitled to order transfers of IAS officers and the elected government has no objection to it, but the transfer of JKAS officers is considered the domain of the elected government in the J&K Union Territory. An emergency meeting of the coalition was held in Srinagar on Friday under the chairmanship of Omar Abdullah and attended by senior leaders including National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah. The meeting concluded with two major resolutions – one condemning the Waqf Bill recently passed in Parliament and the other urging the Centre to respect the mandate of the people in J&K. However, Lt Governor Sinha stood firm. “I have not done anything outside the J&K Reorganisation Act. I am within my jurisdiction and will never cross my limits,” he said in an interview.
