What about this poor woman, she was made CM when her husband was removed
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Legislative Council leader Rabri Devi again had a heated exchange in the Assembly on Tuesday over the reservation issue. It is worth noting that Nitish Kumar’s spat came after RJD MLCs arrived at the House wearing green badges, the colour of the party’s flag, and shouted slogans that the quota for underprivileged castes in the state was increased by the Tejashwi government and it was stolen after the BJP came back to power. The RJD supremo’s son and successor Tejashwi Yadav was the deputy chief minister when the quota was increased through laws passed in 2023, which, however, were struck down by the Patna High Court a few months later. Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister was clearly upset with his former colleague’s attempt to take credit for this populist move and he made one of the MLCs stand up so that the badge and the slogans written on it could be clearly seen. Looking towards the media gallery, the septuagenarian CM said, “Just look at this tamasha. You can see this only in this party”. Rabri Devi stood up to protest the mockery of her party, but Kumar remarked in Bihari language, “You just stay away from it. The party is not yours but your husband’s”. Nitish Kumar and Rabri Devi have been involved in a few war of words in the council recently. Looking at the media gallery and his colleagues sitting on the ruling party benches, Kumar said, “This poor woman was made CM by her husband when he was in trouble”. Taking a dig at former chief minister Rabri Devi, who was present in the Legislative Council, Nitish Kumar said, “This is her husband’s party, what does she care? When her husband (Lalu Prasad) was removed from the post of Chief Minister, she was made CM. Does it mean anything? What does she do? Have you seen anything like this in any other party?” It is worth noting that Rabri Devi became the Chief Minister in 1997, when her husband had to step down after the CBI chargesheet in the fodder scam. Incidentally, Kumar, a former aide of Prasad, had parted ways with him only last year and began his political journey with the BJP, which culminated in his ouster from the RJD in 2005.
