Big upset to happen in Punjab
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and state party MLAs at Kapurthala House in the national capital. Amid reports of a split, Punjab MLAs brainstormed in Delhi. In fact, after the Aam Aadmi Party’s crushing defeat in Delhi, many opposition parties have started alleging that there may be a split in the AAP government of Punjab. AAP MLAs may break up. According to the latest update, Mann has reached Kapurthala House in Delhi to meet the former Delhi CM. In the meeting, Kejriwal will discuss the Delhi Assembly election results with Mann and the MLAs. The meeting comes two days after the Aam Aadmi Party’s defeat in Delhi, where the BJP is going to form the government after a gap of more than 26 years. While the BJP won 48 seats in the 70-member House in the elections held on February 5, the AAP secured 22 seats and the Congress did not get a single seat. Ahead of the election, the entire Punjab unit of AAP, including Mann, cabinet ministers, MPs and MLAs, campaigned aggressively in Delhi for the AAP candidates. He spoke about the work done in Punjab, including giving 50,000 government jobs, giving 300 units of electricity free, opening 850 ‘Aam Aadmi Clinics’ on the lines of Delhi’s ‘Mohalla Clinics’ and buying a private thermal power plant. Mann was the party’s star campaigner and held road shows in Delhi to showcase his government’s works to seek votes for the candidates. The defeat in Delhi has come as a blow to the AAP, with opposition leaders predicting a similar downfall for the party in Punjab, where only three of its 13 candidates won the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The AAP came to power in Punjab in 2022 by winning 92 seats in the 117-member House.
