After zero in Delhi, Congress is not getting respect, now this ally of India alliance has given a big blow

The West Bengal assembly elections are still a year away. But Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has made it clear that her party will fight the 2026 elections alone. During an internal meeting ahead of the budget session of the Bengal Assembly, Banerjee told her MLAs that the TMC will fight the elections alone. She said that we will come back with more than two-thirds majority in Bengal next year. Congress has no stake here. Party insiders said that Banerjee, referring to the Delhi election results, mentioned in the meeting that the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have not helped each other in the capital or in Haryana. The Chief Minister’s claim has made it clear that TMC, one of the major players in the India Block, will not form an alliance with the Congress in the state. Banerjee’s comments show that while she is boosting the confidence of her MLAs ahead of the elections, she is also sending a strong message to the Congress, with which the TMC has a hot and cold relationship. After the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress replaced Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury with Subhankar Sarkar as the Bengal unit president in an attempt to mend ties with the Banerjee-led party. Sarkar is known to have taken a softer stance against the TMC than his predecessor, but the change does not seem to have worked for the grand old party. In the India Block too, the TMC has maintained a distance from the Congress, and after the Congress’ defeat in the Delhi elections, Banerjee has been clear about not allying with the Congress.
