Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has expressed confidence in the victory of the Mahayuti alliance with more than 175 seats in the 288-member state assembly. The Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP candidate from Baramati assembly constituency said that Mahayuti will get more than 175 seats and in Baramati I will win by a margin of more than one lakh votes. Maharashtra will go to polls on November 20 and the counting of votes will take place on November 23. Pawar visited Baramati where he met villagers and addressed their issues. The seven-time MLA from Baramati assembly constituency is contesting against his nephew Yugendra Pawar, who is making his electoral debut in the assembly elections. The Mahayuti alliance comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP. It is pitted against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which comprises the Congress, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hit back at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi over his remarks that they are descendants of “Razakars” who tortured the people of Marathwada. Speaking to media persons during his election rally in Nagpur today, Fadnavis said, “They are descendants of ‘Razakars’. The ‘Razakars’ tortured the people of Marathwada, looted their lands, tried to rape women and destroyed families. How can they talk to us?” Notably, Razakar is an Arabic word which means volunteer. It is considered derogatory in Bangladesh as it refers to people who supported the Pakistani army in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
