Dakshina Kannada is becoming a wasteland due to social tension: Deputy CM Shivakumar
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has expressed concern over the growing tension between different communities of the society in Dakshina Kannada district, saying that due to this the district is becoming a wasteland. Shivakumar said this at the Ashok Jan-Man Sari distribution program organized by MLA Ashok Rai’s Rai Estates and Educational and Charitable Trust at Kumbettu in Puttur, 40 km from Mangaluru on Saturday and stressed that employment generation is very important to restore peace among the communities. He said, Dakshina Kannada district is becoming a wasteland, educational institutions are no longer able to attract students from outside due to social tension and other issues. Many local banks have closed down, due to which our youth have to seek employment in Saudi Arabia, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Shivakumar urged local leaders to give priority to employment generation. He said, the region is home to many temples and is known for its beautiful beaches, making it an ideal place for a separate tourism policy. Moreover, despite having the biggest port in Mangaluru, there are no five-star hotels with good facilities.
