Samajwadi Party to contest on seven seats in Jammu and Kashmir
Lucknow. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has announced that his party will field its candidates in the assembly elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana next month in September. Even though this will not benefit the party, but Akhilesh Yadav, who is trying his best to get his party the status of a national party, can prove to be a profitable deal for him. To get national status and expand in other states, Samajwadi Party is preparing to contest elections on seven seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Akhilesh has appointed Jiyalal Verma as the state president of Jammu and Kashmir for election preparations in J&K. Verma has also handed over the list of names of candidates to Akhilesh Yadav. This list can be announced these days. The thing to note here is that Samajwadi Party is contesting the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections without an alliance with Congress. SP had performed very well with Congress in the Lok Sabha elections, but SP could not find a place in the Congress alliance in Kashmir. SP is preparing to field candidates on the seven seats of Jammu and Kashmir. All these seats are Muslim majority. Out of these, Pulwama, Rajpora, Kulgam, Sopore, Anantnag and Kishtwar are the seats where SP will field its candidates. Congress has not made any kind of political agreement with SP in Jammu Kashmir, here Congress is contesting elections in alliance with Farooq Abdullah’s National Conference. In such a situation, there is little hope of Samajwadi Party getting any seat in alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, despite this Akhilesh has made full preparations to try his luck in Kashmir. It is not that SP is contesting elections in Kashmir for the first time. SP has fielded its candidates here earlier also. Sheikh Abdul Rehman has been an MLA and MP from SP. After the Lok Sabha elections, SP National President Akhilesh Yadav seems confident and has started working on getting the status of a national party for the party. For which he is demanding seats from alliance in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jammu Kashmir, but his talks with Congress do not seem to be working out in these states.
