Rahul Gandhi on ED’s radar again, likely to be questioned in this case
Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi may soon face action by the Enforcement Directorate. It is being told that the federal agency is preparing to summon the Congress leader for questioning. According to a Hindustan Times report, quoting officials familiar with the developments, the Rae Bareli MP may soon be summoned by the ED for questioning in connection with the money laundering probe into the cases of the party-run National Herald newspaper. The report said that the agency may need a fresh round of questioning of Rahul as the agency seeks to complete its probe into irregularities, in which it has already attached assets worth Rs 751 crore. The Congress leader was earlier questioned by the enforcement agency for nearly 40 hours in four sittings in June 2022. The agency questioned him about his role in the day-to-day functioning of Young Indian Private Limited (YI), a company in which he is a major shareholder along with his mother Sonia Gandhi. The ED also questioned him about the acquisition of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) by YI and the loan of Rs 90.21 crore given by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to AJL. The enforcement agency also asked Rahul Gandhi about transactions related to the development of a property in Mumbai. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi was also questioned by the agency in connection with the case for nearly 11 hours in three sessions in July 2022. However, it is not clear whether the agency is considering calling Sonia Gandhi for questioning as well.
