She wrote on Twitter that the reports of continuous attacks on minorities in neighboring country Bangladesh are disturbing. Discrimination, violence and attacks on the basis of religion, caste, language or identity are unacceptable in any civilized society. Priyanka Gandhi further said that we hope that the situation in Bangladesh will soon be normal and the newly elected government there will ensure security and respect for people following Hindu, Christian and Buddhist religions. Earlier, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote in his post that no community, whether it is the majority of Bangladesh with a different viewpoint or a minority following Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist or any other religion-sect-belief, should be a victim of violence. The SP chief further said that the Indian government should take up this matter strictly at the international level as a matter of human rights. This is also a very sensitive issue of our defense and internal security. Bangladesh interim leader Mohammad Yunus on Saturday condemned attacks on minority communities in the violence-hit country and termed them “heinous”, and urged the youth to protect all Hindu, Christian and Buddhist families from harm. Several Hindu temples, homes and businesses were vandalized, women were attacked and at least two Hindu leaders associated with Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party were killed in the violence that broke out in Bangladesh after the Hindus fled the country, according to community leaders in Dhaka.
