P Chidambaram said- What is the point of going into the past, we accepted the mistake

Politics continues over Samvidhan Hatya Diwas. The opposition is fiercely attacking the Modi government at the Center. All the big leaders of Congress are questioning the Modi government. Amidst all this, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram has also targeted the government. He highlighted that the Emergency was a mistake and the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had accepted it even before the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-led Center announced to celebrate June 25 as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. P Chidambaram said that why is the BJP not going back to the 18th or 17th century? 75 percent of Indians living today were born after 1975. The Emergency was a mistake and Indira Gandhi accepted it. We have amended the Constitution so that the Emergency cannot be imposed so easily. He further asked what is the point of debating the rights and wrongs of the Emergency after 50 years, while stressing that ‘lessons have been learnt from the past’. “What is the point of debating the right and wrong of the Emergency after 50 years? The BJP should forget the past. We have learnt lessons from the past,” he said.Earlier this month, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-led Central government had announced to observe ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ to mark the anniversary of the Emergency. The decision has evoked sharp reactions and opposition parties have targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, in a post on ‘X’ on Friday, said that in the last 10 years your government has observed “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” every day. You have snatched the self-respect of every poor and deprived section of the country every moment.
