Law and order situation in Delhi is continuously deteriorating

The murder of a patient inside the ward of GTB Hospital may be a case of mistaken identity. The police suspect this. This is also because a criminal was transferred from the same ward a day before the incident. However, the AAP government of Delhi has raised many questions on the Lieutenant Governor (LG) regarding the deteriorating law and order in the capital. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has blamed Vinay Kumar Saxena’s tenure as Lieutenant Governor (LG) for this. Bhardwaj, while talking to news agency ANI, said that the situation in Delhi is getting worse since Vinay Kumar Saxena became LG. He said that the law and order situation is getting worse day by day. Now criminals do not fear the police. The crime rate in Delhi is the highest. Most of the policemen are busy in VIP duty. Bhardwaj said that big societies maintain their security by appointing security guards. People have stopped filing complaints with the police for incidents like chain snatching, mobile snatching, house theft and vehicle theft because nothing happens. On the murder inside a Delhi hospital today, he stressed that “We cannot do security checks for entry inside the hospital; even private hospitals do not go through security checks… It is the fear of law that prevents crime. When the state of your chargesheets is so bad that you can no longer file chargesheets for 10% of crimes, criminals know they can manage.” He said the LG should visit police stations daily and conduct surprise inspections. If fault is found, action should be taken there. Today, no woman wants to go to a police station to lodge a complaint. Should this happen in the capital? The Centre has no attention on this matter. In his post, Bhardwaj highlighted that the Delhi Police is severely understaffed and a large part of the force is engaged in VIP security. Citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, he said Delhi has the highest crime rate in the country with 1,832 crimes per 1 lakh population. Chargesheets are being filed in only 30% of the cases. He questioned the effectiveness of the LG and asked, “What has LG sahab done about the law and order situation in Delhi?”
