Assam Chief Minister Himanta visits relief camps, interacts with people
Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited relief camps in Kamrup district amid the flood situation in the state and took stock of the situation of the people living in them. He met and interacted with the people living in three relief camps and directed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) posted on ‘X’, “Today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the relief camp at Amrit Chandra Thakuria Commerce College in Palashbari, where 28 persons from the flood-affected area have taken shelter.” In another post, the CMO said that the Chief Minister also met the people taking shelter in a relief camp at LP School, Nahira. The Chief Minister’s Office said, “HCM took stock of the facilities available in the camp and directed the Deputy Commissioner (Kamrup) to ensure fulfillment of daily needs and take special care of the needs of children and the elderly.” Sharma also visited Nahira Guimara Regional High School and interacted with the people staying there. “The Chief Minister met 236 people temporarily staying there and directed Kamrup district to ensure adequate supply of all essential commodities in the camp,” the CMO said. According to official information, a total of 23,96,648 people in 107 revenue circles and 3,535 villages in 29 districts of the state have been affected by the floods. In Assam, the water level of Brahmaputra at Nematighat (Jorhat), Tezpur (Sonitpur) and Dhubri, Burhidihing at Chenimari (Dibrugarh), Dikhow (Sivasagar), Disang at Nangalmuraghat (Sivasagar), Dhansiri at Numaligarh (Golaghat), Kopili at Dharamtul (Nagaon), Kushiyara at Karimganj, and Barak at (B P Ghat) Cachar has risen above the danger mark. The Regional Meteorological Centre at Borjhar here has forecast very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Cachar and Karimganj.
