Will Congress form an alliance with AAP in Delhi and Haryana? Jairam Ramesh gave this answer
The Congress on Thursday ruled out an alliance with India Block partner Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana and Delhi. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh told that there is no India ‘Janbandhan’ in Punjab. In Haryana, we gave one seat to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Lok Sabha elections, but I don’t think there will be India Janbandhan in the assembly elections. In Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party itself has said that there will be no India Janbandhan in the assembly elections. When specifically asked if there will be an alliance in Haryana and Delhi, Ramesh said, “There is no scope (for alliance) in Delhi and Haryana.” Jharkhand, Haryana and Maharashtra are due to go to polls later this year, while assembly elections in Delhi will be held early next year. Last month, Delhi minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai had made it clear that the party’s alliance with Congress is only for the Lok Sabha elections. He said that India Block was only for contesting the Lok Sabha elections. Many parties had contested the elections together and he was also a part of it. At present, there is no alliance for the Delhi Assembly elections. Congress and AAP had contested the Lok Sabha elections together in Delhi. The oldest party contested three seats, while AAP contested four seats. However, the alliance failed to win a single seat in the capital. A few days ago, a Congress leader blamed AAP for the alliance’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections in the capital. Congress leader Abhishek Dutt had said that I believe that if we had not contested the elections with them, the Congress’s seats in the elections would have increased. Congress suffered losses in the Lok Sabha elections due to the excise scam.
