The story of Advani-Joshi’s Bhagiratha effort, will those who say Ramlala, we will come, go to Pratistha?

It is said that Bhagiratha had brought down Mother Ganga from heaven to earth with his penance. Since then, the courage to accomplish seemingly impossible tasks is called Bhagiratha Prayas. The construction of the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya is also the result of Advani’s Bhagiratha efforts. Even though the temple was built after the order of the Supreme Court, the struggle that Advani fought for it and the way he led the movement can never be forgotten. A day after Ram Mandir Trust general secretary Champat Rai said that Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi have been requested not to attend the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22 due to their old age and health. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Tuesday invited both the leaders who made fundamental contributions to the movement that changed the course of national politics. The BJP’s inclination towards supporting the VHP’s Ram Mandir demand began two years after the party’s debacle in 1984 when it was reduced to only two Lok Sabha seats. In 1986, Advani was made the party president in place of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. After taking charge of the party, Advani made Murli Manohar Joshi the national general secretary. Joshi was an RSS activist and physics lecturer, whose PhD guide at Allahabad University was former RSS chief Rajendra Singh or Rajju Bhaiya. The BJP, under Advani’s leadership, formally supported the VHP’s demand for a Ram temple at its Palampur session in June 1989. A move that dissatisfied Jaswant Singh and made him walk to the railway station. Sheshadri Chari, former editor of the RSS-affiliated weekly Organiser, told The Indian Express that the Palampur resolution was a turning point in the life of the BJP and marked a shift from Gandhian socialism to Hindutva. Around the same time, Joshi, who was close to the RSS, emerged as the party’s second most important leader as Vajpayee was eclipsed for not supporting the Ayodhya movement. Prime Minister VP Singh announced on August 7, 1990 that he would implement the Mandal Commission’s recommendations to provide reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), which was a quick response to Devi Lal’s call for a farmers’ rally in Delhi. Devi Lal was the Deputy Prime Minister but Singh dismissed him on 1 August. Singh’s decision threatened the Hindu unity that the Ram Janmabhoomi movement was slowly building. A few weeks after Mandal’s announcement, the RSS called a meeting on 26 August 1990 to garner support for the VHP’s program to inaugurate the temple in Ayodhya in a few months. Advani, who was present at the meeting, realized the potential of the movement. Within a few weeks, he announced a Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya to garner support for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya. The visit began on September 25, 1990 when Advani symbolically offered prayers at the Somnath temple, which was rebuilt by the Center soon after independence and shared the memory of past destruction by medieval invaders, escalating the demand. Went. Narendra Modi helped organize the Gujarat leg of the yatra.
