Shashi Tharoor responded to critics, said – cannot talk only in terms of party interests
Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday responded to the criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US visit and his praise of the Left Democratic Front government of Kerala. He said that I have been in politics for 16 years. My view has been that when someone in the government, whether it is our government or the government of any other party, does the right thing or does something good, he should accept and praise it, and when he does something bad, he should be criticized. Shashi Tharoor said that if I keep praising all the time then no one will take me seriously. If I keep criticizing all the time then no one will take me seriously. There is some give and take in democracy. The Congress MP also said that although the results have come in favor of the Indian people, some questions still remain about PM Modi’s Washington visit. He said why the question of the way to bring those illegal immigrants back to India was not raised? He questioned whether PM Modi took it up behind closed doors? I welcome the fact that there is now an agreement to negotiate for the next 9 months on trade and tariffs. This is much better than Washington hastily and unilaterally imposing some tariffs on us, which could have hurt our exports. The Congress MP also said, “I feel like something good has been achieved and as an Indian I appreciate that. We can’t always talk only in terms of party interests.” Earlier on Friday, Tharoor, commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States, had said that major concerns were addressed during the meeting. Tharoor said that the joint press conference addressed by the two leaders shows that the talks went well. He had said that to hear a person like Donald Trump, whose defense secretary yesterday (Thursday) called him the world’s greatest negotiator, declaring that the Indian Prime Minister was a better negotiator than him, it feels great that Modi can put something in the bank.
