Congress to launch mass contact campaign to revive party in Jammu and Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress has decided to rebuild the organisation’s base at the grassroots level by running a mass contact campaign in every assembly constituency throughout the year, the party said on Sunday. A decision to this effect was taken at a day-long party meeting attended by senior leaders, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs Bharat Singh Solanki, Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra and AICC general secretary G A Mir, a Congress spokesperson said. He said the leaders who attended the meeting discussed in detail the assembly elections held last year, organisational matters and measures to strengthen, infuse new energy and rejuvenate the party. The National Conference-Congress alliance won the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections but the Congress’ performance was disappointing as the party contested 32 seats and could win only six seats, five in Kashmir and one in Jammu.
