India is establishing itself as a “Vishwa Mitra” today: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Saturday that India is establishing itself as a “Vishwa Mitra” today. In his address at a book launch here, Jaishankar also said that “we want to be friends with as many people as possible.” He said that this obviously generates goodwill and positivity towards India. He said that this is reflected in the increasing contribution of the country to global good and its close engagement with the international community. He said that in the final analysis, friends are “always a work in progress”. Jaishankar said that it is never easy for a large country like India to develop friendships. He said that the emotional aspect comes from shared experiences and this can be clearly seen in relation to the ‘Global South’. Jaishankar said, “Friendships are not exclusive, especially in a multipolar world.” He also referred to India’s bilateral and multilateral relations with many countries.
