Assam is striving to become a net contributor to the country’s third largest economy: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Thursday said his government’s effort is to ensure that his state emerges as a net contributor to India’s aspiration of becoming the world’s third largest economy. Sharma said that to achieve this goal, the Assam government made ‘pragmatic’ presentations before the 16th Finance Commission, which can help strengthen cooperative federalism, address challenges and strike a good balance between equity and efficiency. He said in a post on ‘X’, “I had a good conversation with the members of the 16th Finance Commission and its distinguished chairman A Panagariya ji.” Sharma said that he also highlighted before the commission the unique challenges and costs faced by Assam, such as its diverse geography, the impact of climate change, multiple international borders and the imminent threat of demographic changes. The members of the Finance Commission arrived here on Wednesday on a four-day visit to Assam.
