Champai Soren was being monitored by his own government for the last five months: Himanta Sharma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Wednesday alleged that Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren was being monitored by the police of his own government for the last five months. Sharma said that people close to Soren had caught two sub-inspectors (SIs) of the Special Branch of Jharkhand Police in a hotel in Delhi keeping an eye on former Chief Minister Champai Soren. He said in a press conference here, “This is the rarest case of surveillance in Indian politics. We will take it up to the highest level.” Sharma said, “According to both the SIs, orders were received to keep an eye on Champai Soren from a person holding a constitutional post and the head of the Special Branch.” He said that both the SIs have been handed over to the Delhi Police which is further investigating the matter. The Assam Chief Minister also expressed apprehension of Soren’s phone being tapped and said that there could be a conspiracy to ‘honey trap’ him as a woman was also in contact with both the SIs. Referring to Champai Soren’s announcement of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 30, Sharma said, “Soren was being monitored even before talks with the BJP began.
