Western civilization prioritizes individualism, Indian society is family-centric: Mohan Bhagwat
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that Western civilization prioritizes individualism while Indian society places the family at the center. Addressing the launch of a book written by BJP MLA Ameet Satam, the RSS chief said that parents should not force their children to make a career in a specific field and pursuing hobbies like music or cooking would be equally satisfying. Bhagwat said that parents, especially those from highly educated backgrounds, often pressurize their children to pursue higher education. He said, “In Western cultures, the individual is considered the fundamental unit, where there is more emphasis on individualism. In contrast, our society places the family at the center. A strong family unit can form the basis of a strong society. The nature of our society is naturally to help others.” He urged parents to teach their children to earn better and encourage them to contribute a part of it for the betterment of the society.
