Chief Minister Interacts with Writers and Litterateurs at Mukhya Sevak Sadan

Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami interacted with senior writers and litterateurs from across the state on Sunday at Mukhya Sevak Sadan, located at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office in Dehradun. On this occasion, the litterateurs presented their own authored books to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister met each writer individually to inquire about their well-being and held detailed discussions regarding their literary contributions and current writing work. He remarked that litterateurs not only act as a mirror to society but also serve as guides who steer it in the right direction. The role of litterateurs is crucial in the holistic development of Uttarakhand, the preservation of its rich cultural heritage, and the fostering of social consciousness. He stated that the state government is continuously striving to create a robust literary environment and provide encouragement to writers. The Chief Minister noted that ‘Devbhoomi’ Uttarakhand has been the land of penance and action for numerous sages and seers, including Maharshi Ved Vyasa. This sacred land has produced litterateurs who have elevated Indian literature to new heights. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to cultivate a culture of reading and writing among the new generation. The Chief Minister mentioned that the state government, through the Uttarakhand Bhasha Sansthan, is working on collecting, preserving, and publishing the state’s old, scattered, and unpublished literary works. He added that plans are underway to establish two ‘Sahitya Grams’ (Literature Villages) with the aim of developing Uttarakhand into a significant hub for literary tourism. To honor and encourage litterateurs, the ‘Uttarakhand Sahitya Gaurav Samman’ was instituted in 2022, and the ‘Deerghkalin Sahitya Sevi Samman’ (Long-term Literary Service Award) was launched in 2025. The Chief Minister also extended his support to the ‘1,000 Book Donation Campaign’ run by the Rudraprayag district administration on the occasion of the Harela festival. During the interaction, he announced that he would personally purchase 50 books authored by the writers present and donate them to the public library in Rudraprayag. It is noteworthy that a book collection drive for the public library is being conducted in Rudraprayag under the theme: “One Book, One Tree, One Bright Future.” Appreciating this innovative initiative, the Chief Minister remarked that books form the foundation of knowledge, values, and positive thinking in society. This contribution will not only foster a culture of book donation but also encourage the habit of reading among the youth.
