Akhilesh Yadav’s Jibe: ‘Gujarat Model’ Transformer Burnt Out in UP; Sparks Flying from Makeshift Wiring
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav took aim at the BJP government on Thursday regarding the power crisis in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that the much-touted ‘Gujarat Model’ has failed amidst electricity-related woes during the scorching summer season. In a post on X, Yadav stated that the ‘Gujarat Model’ transformer in UP has blown out, and sparks are flying from wires that have been haphazardly spliced together. He noted that electricity meters continue to run even when there is no power supply, and the public is now hounding BJP leaders. The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh also took a dig at the BJP leadership, remarking that if the very mentors of the senior leaders have failed, what can possibly be expected from their disciples? Yadav asserted that people are questioning the BJP’s crisis management capabilities, asking why the party’s leaders seem to simply surrender whenever a problem arises. Yadav also shared a news report highlighting the alleged failure of Uttar Pradesh’s Energy Minister, A.K. Sharma—a former Gujarat-cadre IAS officer—to effectively manage the state’s power infrastructure. Earlier on Wednesday, Akhilesh Yadav had launched a scathing attack on the BJP, declaring that in the upcoming elections, the public would give the party a thorough “wash and thrash,” leaving it to dry out forever. The SP chief posted on his official X account that the electorate would thoroughly “wash, thrash, and hang out to dry” the BJP in the next polls. In the same post, he took a jibe at the Chief Minister regarding the state’s power crisis, labeling him a “failure.” Akhilesh wrote, “Thank goodness Uttar Pradesh’s ‘failed Chief Minister’ did not claim that this ‘Great Power Disaster’ is the result of a conspiracy hatched by an envoy sent from Delhi.”
