CM Yogi Issues Strict Directives: Health and Power Departments to Remain on High Alert and Maintain Special Vigilance

In view of the severe heatwave conditions, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday ordered the implementation of proactive measures for relief and rescue operations across the state. The Chief Minister directed District Magistrates (DMs), the Health and Power Departments, and relief agencies to maintain a state of high alert. While reviewing the situation, the Chief Minister instructed senior officials to keep a strict watch on the functioning of hospitals, drinking water distribution networks, and power supply systems. He also emphasized that adequate medical arrangements and specialized facilities must be ensured in government hospitals for patients suffering from heatstroke. The Chief Minister appealed to the public to remain vigilant against the severe heatwave (hot summer winds). He advised citizens to take special care of children and the elderly, and suggested wearing loose-fitting cotton or Khadi clothing to protect themselves from the heat. The Chief Minister specifically warned against any form of negligence that could heighten the risk of accidental fires, particularly during this dry spell. Furthermore, he directed officials to pay special attention to outdoor workers and laborers, ensuring that they are protected from fatigue, dehydration, and heat-related illnesses. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a change in weather conditions across North-West India. With the arrival of a Western Disturbance and easterly winds, the heatwave conditions are expected to subside over the next three days. Additionally, warnings regarding thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms have been issued for several regions. According to the IMD, maximum temperatures—which have currently been hovering at or above 45 degrees Celsius—are likely to drop sharply between May 28 and May 30, bringing relief to several northern and central states.
