Trump’s claims of mediation are about to cross the ‘century mark’, Congress launches sharp attack on Prime Minister Modi

Politics in India has heated up once again over US President Donald Trump taking credit for ‘stopping the war’ between India and Pakistan. The Congress party on Wednesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that his “good friend” (Donald Trump) has repeated the claim 70 times that he was the one who ended the military conflict between the two countries last year. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned the Prime Minister’s silence through a post on the social media platform ‘X’. He sarcastically said: “Before yesterday, this count was 68. After Trump’s statement at the White House on Tuesday, it has become 70. The Prime Minister’s ‘good friend’, who has been forcibly hugged many times, has announced so many times that he was responsible for the sudden halt of ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 10, 2025.” “The Prime Minister’s good friend, who has been forcibly hugged many times, has announced so many times (70) that he was responsible for the sudden and unexpected halt of Operation Sindoor on May 10, 2025.” US President Trump said at the White House on Tuesday, “I ended eight wars in 10 months, these were never-ending wars. Cambodia and Thailand have been fighting for years, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo and Rwanda. Pakistan and India… eight planes were shot down. The Prime Minister of Pakistan was here, and he said that President Trump saved ten million people and perhaps even more.” Trump has previously claimed several times that he resolved the military conflict between India and Pakistan in May last year through a trade agreement. On the other hand, India says that the decision to stop military action was considered after contact was made by the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan. The opposition alleges that Prime Minister Modi is compromising the country’s military pride by remaining silent on Trump’s “baseless” claims. The Congress party has demanded that the Prime Minister himself should come forward and clarify whether the US had indeed put trade pressure on India.
