Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented Karnataka’s key demands to Prime Minister Modi, urging action on issues pending for decades.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and submitted a memorandum urging the central government to address pending issues related to irrigation, drinking water supply, flood compensation, sugarcane pricing, and the long-pending request for the establishment of an AIIMS in Raichur. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Siddaramaiah said he requested the Prime Minister’s assistance in clearing several water-related projects. He sought approval for the Samatholana Barrage project and requested that the Central Water Commission be directed to take necessary decisions to progress the project. He also demanded the gazette notification of the second decision of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal, which he said had been pending action for a decade. Siddaramaiah also requested the central government to release ₹5,300 crore for the Bhadra Upper Canal Project, which had previously been announced in the Union Budget. Siddaramaiah’s demand on sugarcane prices comes amid farmers’ protests in northern Karnataka demanding an increase in the cane procurement price. In a memorandum to Modi, the Chief Minister raised several long-standing demands of the state, including the release of over ₹2,100 crore for flood relief and approval of key irrigation projects.
