BJP Misusing the SIR Process for Vote Theft

Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday alleged that the Election Commission’s conduct during the SIR process was extremely disappointing and that the BJP was attempting to weaponize the SIR process for vote theft. He asserted that the Congress party is fully committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral rolls. In a post on X, Kharge stated that the party held a comprehensive strategy review with AICC general secretaries, AICC in-charges, PCCs, CLPs, and AICC secretaries of the states and union territories where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is underway. The Congress president stated that the Congress party is fully committed to protecting the integrity of the electoral rolls. At a time when public confidence in democratic institutions is already eroding, the Election Commission’s conduct during the SIR process has been extremely disappointing. He further stated that the Election Commission must immediately demonstrate that it is not working under the BJP’s umbrella and that it remembers its constitutional oath and allegiance to the people of India, not to any ruling party. We firmly believe that the BJP is trying to weaponize the SIR process for vote theft. And if the Election Commission ignores this, this failure isn’t merely administrative—it becomes complicity in silence. Kharge said that party workers, BLOs, and district, city, and block presidents will remain constantly vigilant and expose every attempt, no matter how subtle, to remove genuine voters or include fake voters. He said, “Congress will not allow democratic safeguards to be eroded by partisan misuse of institutions.” Congress, along with other parties in the Grand Alliance, suffered a crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, winning only six seats. Congress has been accusing the BJP of vote theft.
