Nitish Kumar elected leader of the DU legislative party

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been unanimously elected leader of the Janata Dal United (JDU) legislative party. The decision was taken at an internal meeting of party MLAs in Patna on Wednesday. This decision comes just days after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s landslide victory in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections. A meeting of NDA MLAs will also be held today, where he will be elected the coalition leader. A JD(U) leader stated that Kumar will meet Governor Arif Mohammad Khan in the evening and request him to initiate the process of forming a new government. Earlier, a report quoted outgoing Janata Dal United (JDU) cabinet minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary as saying that Nitish Kumar will resign as Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday, November 19, to begin the formal process of forming a new government. The swearing-in ceremony of the new Bihar government will take place in Patna on November 20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other top NDA leaders, including Union ministers, are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Nitish Kumar will meet the Governor again on Wednesday and submit his resignation along with letters of support from all other constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Nitish Kumar reviewed preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Bihar. The ceremony is scheduled to be held on November 20th at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Kumar, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, and other officials, arrived to inspect the site. Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as Chief Minister for the tenth time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states are expected to attend the ceremony. According to officials, a large number of security forces have been deployed in Patna and around Gandhi Maidan. They said that entry to Gandhi Maidan has been completely restricted for the general public until November 20th.
