Starting in January, passengers can change the travel date of their confirmed train tickets online without any fees

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced. Vaishnav stated that this system is unfair and not in the best interest of passengers. He further stated that instructions have been issued to implement the changes. Currently, passengers are not allowed to change the travel date of online tickets. Passengers must cancel their existing tickets and book a new ticket for their desired date, subject to a cancellation fee. However, the Railway Minister clarified that there is no guarantee of getting a confirmed ticket on the new date, as it depends on seat availability. Furthermore, if the new ticket is priced higher, passengers will have to pay the fare difference. Recently, IRCTC announced new guidelines for online booking of general tickets booked through the IRCTC website or app. The revised IRCTC guidelines regarding Aadhaar-authenticated users will come into effect from October. According to an IRCTC statement, this rule will only apply to online booking of reserved general tickets. There will be no change in the booking timings for general reserved tickets through Indian Railways’ computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters.
