Road construction using solid waste by 2027 will transform India.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that all solid waste in India will be used for road construction by the end of 2027. Speaking at the 120th annual session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on Thursday, Gadkari said that 8 million tons of waste has already been segregated and earmarked for use in road construction projects. Gadkari said that no material is useless, nor is any person useless. With the right technology and leadership, we can turn waste into wealth. He further said that by 2027, our plan is to use all solid waste for road construction. He also pointed to the unsightly “mountains” of garbage in Delhi and said, “We have already segregated 80 lakh tonnes of waste and are using it to build roads.” The minister also praised the government’s initiatives in the field of biofuels and ethanol-based fuels and said that India’s automobile industry will become the world’s largest in the next five years. Currently, India’s automobile sector ranks third globally, after the US and China, with a market size of Rs 22 lakh crore (2.2 trillion rupees).
