Shivraj Singh Chouhan calls ‘One Nation, One Election’ a ‘need of the hour’, lists development benefits
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday strongly advocated for the concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’, calling it the need of the hour. Chouhan stressed that frequent elections hinder the country’s development. He said that this is the need of the hour. Frequent elections often hinder the country’s development. An amendment to the Constitution should be brought to hold Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously. Meanwhile, in New York, MP and Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on One Nation, One Election, P.P. Chaudhary, led India’s first delegation to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and delivered a powerful national statement during the General Debate in the Third Committee on October 8, 2025. In his address, Chouhan sharply criticized Pakistan’s history of repression and propaganda and highlighted its divisive policies. Reaffirming India’s commitment to its vision of a “Developed India – Developed India by 2047,” Chaudhary emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India remains an unwavering partner of the Global South and the United Nations, in stark contrast to Pakistan’s approach. He said, “India is firmly committed to its vision of a “Developed India – Developed India by 2047″ and, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will continue to be a reliable partner of the Global South and the United Nations, in stark contrast to Pakistan’s divisive and oppressive policies.” The ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill was referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee in December 2024. The Lok Sabha on August 12 adopted a motion to extend the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the ‘One Nation, One Election Bill’.
