Rain situation in Maharashtra under control, coordination with other states regarding release of water from dams: Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that the situation in Mumbai and other parts of the state, which was hit by heavy rains, is now under control. He said that the country’s financial capital has now got relief from the torrential rains a day earlier. Fadnavis said that all necessary precautions are being taken regarding disaster management by deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel in the areas affected by heavy rains in the state. He told reporters, “Management is being done to release water from dams. The government is coordinating with the neighboring states in view of the release of water as per our request.” Life was disrupted due to torrential rains in Mumbai and suburban areas on Tuesday. Suburban rail services were disrupted due to submergence in low-lying areas. The Chief Minister said, “The rain situation in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra is overall under control, although heavy rains are still occurring in some areas.” Fadnavis reiterated that crops in 14 lakh hectares have been destroyed. He assured government assistance to the affected farmers after proper assessment. The Chief Minister underlined that no kind of assistance can be announced for farmers on the basis of rain in the last four days. He said that there has been continuous heavy rain last week and in the last four days. There are prescribed methods and norms under the NDRF Act. Fadnavis said that first Panchnama (on-the-spot inspection of damage) should be done, only after that help can be announced.
