Free electricity scheme reaches Bihar, Nitish’s big bet before elections, announcement of giving 125 units free
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced free electricity up to 125 units for all domestic consumers. The announcement has been made a few months before the assembly elections to be held in October-November this year. This is the first such step in the state and the latest in a series of concessions made before the elections. Nitish wrote on Twitter that we have been providing electricity to everyone at cheap rates since the beginning. Now we have decided that from August 1, 2025, i.e. from the bill of the month of July, all the domestic consumers of the state will not have to pay any money for electricity up to 125 units. The CM further wrote that this will benefit a total of 1 crore 67 lakh families in the state. We have also decided that in the next three years, by taking consent from all these domestic consumers, benefits will be given by installing solar power plants on the roofs of their houses or at the nearest public place. He said that under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the entire cost of installing solar power plants for the extremely poor families and the government will also provide proper support for the rest. Due to this, domestic consumers will no longer have to spend up to 125 units of electricity, and according to an estimate, up to 10 thousand megawatts of solar energy will be available in the state in the next three years.
